The Bahamas Beats Colombia 3-1 to Win The Bahamas Cup

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas National Beach Soccer team, coached by former captain Gavin Christie, has won the Bahamas Beach Soccer cup on their home sand on Sunday, defeating the Colombian team 3-1.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas National Beach Soccer team, coached by former captain Gavin Christie, has won the Bahamas Beach Soccer cup on their home sand on Sunday, defeating the Colombian team 3-1. 

Playing in front of a raucous Bahamian crowd at the National Beach Soccer Stadium at the foot of the Sir Sidney Poitier Bridge in scenic Nassau Harbour, Colombia took an early lead when defender Eduardo Lopez scored the match’s first goal five minutes into the first period.

The Colombians continued to press the attack through the first period, however The Bahamas kept them at-bay, keeping them scoreless through the 2nd period into the 3rd both teams scratching and clawing defensively. 

The Bahamas would tie the game with seven minutes left in the 3rd period on a goal by Brandon Adderley. The hometown team would pull through in the final minute of the game in a dramatic fashion, thanks to a clutch goal by Wood Julmis, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Gary Joseph would put the game out of reach once and for all with a penalty goal shortly after, securing the win for The Bahamas. 

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Mario Bowleg and Chief Justice of The Bahamas, Ian Winder, whose son is on the team, were on hand to present trophies to The Bahamas and the Women’s champion Trinidad and Tobago.

Striker Lesly St. Fleur, who was recently named one of the world’s top 100 players, was named tournament MVP.  Bahamas Goalie Michael Butler was named top goalie of the tournament.
