NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Registrar General’s Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Laverne Thompson as the new Registrar of Companies, effective May 12, 2025.

Ms. Thompson assumes this role following the Government’s reorganization of the Registrar General’s Department, which officially took effect on February 1, 2025.

This transformation saw the Department strategically divided into three specialized registries:Registry of Records, Registry of Companies, and Registry of Intellectual Properties.

Ms. Thompson brings over 30 years of leadership and expertise spanning private banking, corporate and fund administration, international securities trading, and regulatory oversight.

She holds an MBA with a concentration in International Finance, a BA in Banking & Finance, she is a Certified Financial Planner® and holds the International Compliance Association (ICA) Diploma in Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering.

Her distinguished career includes serving as Vice President responsible for international trading operations in The Bahamas at a global investment management organization, Director of the Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB), and Director of the Association of International Banks and Trust Companies (AIBT).

She was also a member of the Companies Legislative Overhaul Committee, where she collaborated with government stakeholders and industry regulators to support the modernization of Bahamian company law.

The Department welcomes Ms. Thompson’s appointment with confidence in her ability to guide the Registry of Companies into its next phase of growth and innovation.

Her leadership aligns with the Government’s broader vision of improving service delivery, reducing bureaucracy, and enhancing operational efficiency within the public sector.
