“One of the things, this is one of the main connections between the government and the people of The Bahamas, so definitely we wanna make sure when we’re in the position to start modernizing the post office and all the savings bank, we’re doing it in facilities that are also upkept.”

Lundy says the tour provided a clearer picture of what work still needs to be done.

He also reinforced the government’s commitment to improving the facilities.

“Had a number of facilities that were renovated this year, and we’re moving into the next budget cycle where we’ll complete all of the renovations with all of the facilities throughout Nassau.”

Several locations have been identified for immediate attention, including the Bain and Grants Town, Carmichael and Cable Beach post offices.

The minister says the focus will be on structural improvements to ensure the buildings can support the transition to a more modern service.

“And it’ll just be where we look at the structural support, the roof support, all of the AC systems, and make sure that it’s conducive for when we make that transition into modernization.”

But the inspections won’t stop in New Providence.

Lundy says he plans to visit post office facilities throughout the Family Islands to ensure they too are included in the government’s upgrade plans.

As the Member of Parliament for Mangrove Cay, Central and South Andros, he says he already knows where his first Family Island stop will be.
