NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Bahamians say the headlines feel all too close to home.
Many here have loved ones living, studying, or working in the U.S. and say these rising tensions are cause for concern.

Resident:
“We have a lot of Bahamians in the United States of America, and I have family in America, and I don’t know what the outcome is going to be, you know? But I pray that, you know, some resolution come to the situation.”

Resident:
“I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know what can happen to them, and I just pray that they’ll all be safe and all go well for them because there’s some serious times going on.”

The government has issued a travel alert and urged Bahamians to utilize security precautions when traveling to high-risk areas like Washington D.C. and other large cities.

Still, with uncertainty growing, many are leaning on faith and hoping for peace over politics.
Others are rethinking their travel plans entirely, worried about being caught in the crosshairs of a global conflict or the economic fallout that could hit The Bahamas hard.

Resident:
“I’m not traveling to the U.S. anytime now. I’m traveling, but it’s actually not through the U.S.”

Shonnell Bain – Resident:
“My main concern is a lot of issues, especially since, I think it was last year when they had the shutdown, when someone hacked and all the planes and everything. So that was more of my concern, especially where everything’s becoming so digital.”

Resident:
“I don’t have no concerns about traveling. Only about the war, what going on, and the thousands of people were dying. Especially babies.”

And beyond the headlines, there’s also economic anxiety. A full-scale war could send energy prices soaring again, trigger global market instability, and squeeze small island economies like ours in unexpected ways.

Resident:
“There’s a saying that if America blow their nose, The Bahamas catch the cold. So anything happen in America, it do affect The Bahamas. And there is a great concern.”

Sharon Cooper – Resident:
“Tourism may decline because of a war. And obviously that’s gonna affect The Bahamas. So I wouldn’t want to see a war happen.”
