UNITED STATES – The FDA is considering a ban on a red food dye found in thousands of American snacks, candies, and cereals, over health concerns.

This as the FDA says it may act on a petition to revoke its approval soon.

Often used to create a bright cherry-red color, red no. 3 has been linked to cancer in animals and banned in cosmetics since 1990.

Critics, including lawmakers and public health groups, argue it poses risks, especially for children, citing behavioral issues.

The dye remains banned in the EU and California.
