U.S.A. – VJ Edgecombe highlighted a productive night for Bahamians in NCAA hoops as conference play continued.
The freshman guard finished with 30 points to lead his Baylor Bears to a 70-62 win over the Kansas State Wildcats Wednesday night at Foster Pavilion in Waco, Texas.
The Bears were already on a two game losing streak and looked to be headed for loss number three when they trailed K-State 40-28.
Edgecombe took over and scored 20 in the second half alone, including eight straight points on a 13-2 run.
His three gave the Bears a 55-50 lead with six minutes left to play.
Edgecombe shot 8-13 from the field, made three threes and was 11-12 from the line.
The Bears improved to 12-6 overall, 4-3 in the Big 12.
Staying in the Big 12, AJ Storr and the 12th ranked Kansas Jayhawks won 74-61 over the TCU Horned Frogs at Schollmeir Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
Storr was one of five Jayhawks players in double figures with 12 points.
Another player with a big second half, Storr scored 10 of his 12 after the break to help Kansas erase a 14 point deficit.
His stepback jumper with just over 11 minutes left to play gave the Jayhawks the lead for good.
Kansas improved to 14-4, 5-2 in the big 12.
On the west coast, Deyton Albury and the Utah State Aggies defeated the Nevada Wolfpack 90-69 at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Utah.
Albury got the start and finished with nine points in 21 minutes.
Utah State improved to 17-2, 7-1 in the Mountain West.

Brent Moss had a breakout freshman season in his Barton Cougars run at the Juco National Title, but he may be even better this season as a sophomore.
One week after being named the KJCC Player of the Week, Moss took it up a notch and was named the NJCAA National Player of the Week.
The Cougars finished 2-1 over the course of the week and moss put up some of the best numbers in the country – 25 points and 12.7 rebounds per game.
In last Wednesday’s 112-111 loss to independence he finished with 40 points and 20 rebounds – both career highs.
The Cougars recently fell out of the top 25 but have reeled off back-to-back wins against ranked teams including last night’s 91-86 win over number 23 Hutchinson.
Moss finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Through 18 games this season, Moss is averaging 18.1 points and 10 rebounds per game.
NBA
Buddy Hield returned to Sacramento in the visiting locker room and his former team got the best of his current team Wednesday night.
Hield scored 17 points on 5-9 shooting from three point range in his Golden State Warriors’ 123-117 loss to the Kings Wednesday night at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
Hield’s buzzer beating three capped a 41 point second quarter and gave the shorthanded warriors a 65-48 lead at the half.
The Kings erased the deficit to take an 85-all tie into the third, and ended the game on a run to outscore the Warriors in the fourth.
