NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Commonwealth Observer Group’s interim findings on the 2026 General Election are sparking strong reaction across the country, with many Bahamians saying the concerns raised are nothing new. Our Chinasa Outten hit the streets today to hear directly from residents.

Resident No.1 –

“I’m 70 years old and this election is one of the worst I’ve ever seen, completely unfair.”

Resident No. 2

“I completely agree with the observers. I think it was a buy election, a buyout.”

Another resident reacted to the observers’ claim that many of the same recommendations have been repeated every election cycle with little to no change, saying this:

Resident No.3

“They’ve been making the same recommendations for years and nothing or no changes are being made. That only says one thing, they like it the way it is because they’re able to do and manipulate the election how they want without interference.”

Another resident says, in his view, international observers were not even necessary.

Resident No.4 –

“We could see that for ourselves. If everyone wants to turn a blind eye to it, that’s on them, but I could clearly see what’s going on in this country.”

In a previous report, many also took to social media to share their reactions, where one user writes that “now that we have this feedback, let’s get to the drawing board before the next election and modernize the system.”

Then, there are some residents are calling for greater unity among Bahamians.

Resident No. 5 –

“Us as the people, we need to come together. Every time someone says they’re going to stand up or create a protest, only a handful of people show up. If we actually came together and supported each other, we’d be better off. But nobody wants to stand up for the country.”
