NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A woman who arranged an armed robbery that resulted in the murder of her lover was sentenced to 28 years in prison on Wednesday.

Thirty-six-year-old Raquel Johnson finally learning her fate for the murder and armed robbery of ZNS radio announcer Scott Richards at the Bonefish National Pond on May 26, 2016.

And thirty-four-year-old Richard Bevans who fatally shot Richards after robbing him of an iPhone was sentenced to 48 years in prison.

They were both convicted following a trial on July 7, 2022. Johnson, who was on bail during the trial, was remanded to prison to await sentencing. Bevans was already in custody, serving sentence for armed robbery.

A jury accepted prosecutors’ contention that Johnson lured Richards to Bonefish Pond to have sex, where Bevans was lying in wait to rob him.

After the murder and robbery, Johnson caught the bus home and did not tell anyone what happened.

In passing her judgment, Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson said that Bevans, who has nine previous armed robbery convictions, was incapable of reform.
By contrast, she believed that Johnson, who had no previous convictions, could be reformed.
