NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The days of waiting forever at timed traffic lights being standard will soon be behind us, according to Ministry of Works officials.

Traffic lights are getting smarter according to a Senior Traffic and Transportation Engineer at the Ministry of Works and Utilities Joy John.

John is an integral part of the traffic management system which will soon have its own center.

His team has been working tirelessly to bring our intersections into the future, by replacing timed traffic lights, with ones that use sensors and artificial intelligence to detect when it’s time to turn green.

He says hopefully this can help quell some driver’s fears of stopping at red lights after dark in the capital.
