GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Dr. Andy Laing, volunteer clinical consultant at the Grand Bahama Resilience Center says a person can be more vulnerable or prone to committing suicide based on certain risk factors.
GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Dr. Andy Laing, volunteer clinical consultant at the Grand Bahama Resilience Center says a person can be more vulnerable or prone to committing suicide based on certain risk factors.
Now if you suspect your loved one may be contemplating suicide, Dr. Laing strongly recommends asking the question directly.
He says this opens the door to having the hard conversation and offering prevention. He also suggests getting specific details of their plan.
Dr. Laing emphasizing that suicide is preventable.
He says protective factors include a strong network of family and friends, being a part of a faith community, and taking advantage of resources within the community such as those offered at the resilience center.
