Man Receives 32-Year Prison Sentence for 2009 Murder

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man has been jailed for 32 years for a 2009 murder.

Thirty-four-year-old Janaldo Farrington also received a concurrent sentence of 22 for two attempted murders that stemmed from the same incident.

Farrington was convicted of the December 28, 2009 murder of Terron Albury and the attempted murders of Kennard McSweeney and Alexander McSweeney at a bar in Gregory Town, Eleuthera.

Farrington, according to the evidence, had a verbal altercation over access to the bathroom in a bar with Kennard McSweeney that turned physical.

McSweeney was prevented from using the men’s bathroom because Farrington’s girlfriend was in there.

Justice Neil Brathwaite said that he believed that Farrington should have been sentenced to 35 years for the murder and 25 years for the attempted murders.

However, he reduced the sentences by three years as compensation for a breach of his constitutional right to be tried within a reasonable time.

It took prosecutors 14 years to bring the case to trial.
