Bahamians Earn All-American Honors at D-II Indoor Championships

U.S.A. – It was a history making meet for Collinique Farrington, who continues to rewrite the record books for the Southern Baptist University Bearcats.

The senior sprinter had two podium finishes to lead the Bahamian contingent competing at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Farrington took third place in the 400m in a personal best 53.56 secs and returned to the track less than an hour later to finish second in the 200m in 23.58 secs.

She became the first bearcat ever to have 2 top-3 finishes in the same national championship in school history.

Stephanique Dean also made the 200m final and finished seventh in 24.05 secs.

Both earned first team all-American honors.

Also at the meet, MSU Moorhead junior sprinter Shavantae Roberts finished seventh overall in the 60m in 7.44 secs and was named a first team all-American.

Robynn Rolle-Curry, of Minnesota State-Mankato earned first team all-America honors with her 4x400m team that finished fourth in a season’s best 3:40.76 seconds.

Meanwhile, the NCAA Division I indoor season came to a close with the national championships and several Bahamian student athletes were recognized among the tops in the nation.

FLorida Gators’ junior Anthaya Charlton earned a fourth-place finish with a 6.71m mark in the long jump.

The distance was her career-best at the NCAA Championships and was her second fourth place finish at the national level, equalling the performance from the 2024 Outdoor Championships.

Fellow gator Wanya McCoy also earned first team all-American honors.

Antoine Andrews of Texas tech was also a first-team all American in the 60mh.

He finished sixth in 7.56 secs.

Javonya Valcourt was also named an all American and her Tennessee Vols 4x400m relay team set a school-record time of 3:27.25 to finish fourth overall.

Flag Football

The Bahamas Flag Football League opened its 2025 season over the weekend and as the sport continues to expand, executives expect a true football atmosphere at the Thomas A. Robinson fields.

League Commissioner Kendall Thompson said football is back and the general public has an opportunity to see elite level action on the gridiron every weekend.
