U.S.A. – The madness has started, most brackets are already busted, and day one produced mixed results for Bahamians in the NCAA Tournament.

In the Midwest Region, Fredrick King and the Creighton Blue Jays are on the round of 32 after they defeated the Louisville Cardinals 89-75 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.

Up next will be the round of 32 and a chance at the Sweet 16 in a matchup against the fourth seeded Auburn Tigers Saturday night.

Also in Lexington, Deyton Albury and the Utah State Aggies were eliminated by the UCLA Bruins 72-47.

Albury finished with 12 points and a season high seven rebounds.

In the West Region, AJ Storr and the Kansas Jayhawks were also eliminated in the first round with a 79-72 loss to the Arkansas razorbacks in Providence, Rhode Island.

Storr finished with 15 points off the bench.

Staying in the West, Valentino Simon and the Omaha Mavericks were eliminated by the St. John’s Red Storm 83-53.

Track & Field

Action is underway for Team Bahamas at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China.

Wendell Miller was the first team member in action and ran a personal best of 47.33 secs in the 400m.

He finished third in heat three, 16th overall.

On Saturday, for Team Bahamas, Camile Rutherford will run in the prelims of the 60m and on Sunday Devynne Charlton will look to defend her 60m hurdles title while Anthaya Charlton takes on the field in the long jump.

Approxiamately 576 athletes from 127 countries are set to compete over the weekend to close out their indoor seasons.

Meanwhile, The University of The Bahamas Mingoes Track and Field teams led the way at the 2nd Annual Noble Prep Track and Field Invitational.

Some of the Mingoes top finishers included a sweep in the 800 meters led by Lhevinne Joseph in 1:56.75 seconds.

In the field, Kendall Cooper won the javelin with a throw of 47.15m and Davia Musgrove won the long jump at 5.08m.

Samuel Corbin won the shot put at 11.39m while Lauren Stuart won both the discus at 26.28m and the shot put at 8.06m.
