NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China here in The Bahamas is standing by their government’s position on the looming trade war with the United States.

On Tuesday, the White House announced a 104% tariff on goods from China but later stepped back, pausing the action for 90 days.

Hours later, President Trump announced additional tariffs on Chinese imports, now totaling 145%.

The U.S. president warned that any retaliatory measure China takes would “end in failure.”

China hit back immediately with 84% retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports, expected to come into effect today.

The local Chargé d’Affaires declined an on-camera interview but says his government remains unwavering in its position.

Pointing to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian’s remarks, the Chinese government says:

“We won’t let anyone take away the people’s rights to development.”

Adding that:

“If the U.S. decides not to care about the interests of the U.S. itself, China, and the rest of the world, and is determined to fight a tariff and trade war, China’s response will continue to the end.”
