NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Rochea Ferguson is a young woman who lived an ordinary life, who says her symptoms seemed harmless at first, but over time, things took a turn, landing her in and out of hospital.

Eventually, doctors diagnosed her with allergic Angioedema, a condition that can cause swelling in the airways and digestive system.

Episodes can be painful and last for days.

There’s no known cure and patients often face years of treatment, but despite her circumstances, Rochea remains positive.

“I’m actually relieved because I can actually put a name to this thing that’s swelling me up that’s causing me to have shortness of breath,” Rochea said.

She also finds comfort in knowing the condition rarely affects reproductive health and is not commonly hereditary.

However, she admits the emotional toll of her journey hasn’t been easy, And at times, she’s battling with depression.

Through it all, she says her greatest source of strength has come from her faith.
