GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The country’s precious pearls getting an opportunity to stay fit thanks to a fitness initiative by the Urban Renewal Center. Our news team visited one of the workout sessions recently. Italia Hall reports.

It was all smiles and movement in the Lewis Yard community as a number of seniors took part in an exercise program.

The Urban Renewal Center in Grand Bahama recently hosted range of motion – a specially designed program to keep older adults healthy, flexible and energized.

The session focused on light cardio, stretching and strengthening exercises aimed at supporting joint health, improving mobility and encouraging an active lifestyle.

And these seniors are fully onboard.

Russell and trainer Sam Williams, both 81 years old, share the keys to a long life.

The program also emphasizes mental wellness. Participants heard from President of The Bahamas Grandparent Support Foundation, Clair Fox, on the importance of staying mentally sharp, especially for those caring for grandchildren.

And Urban Renewal Program Director, Lloyd Grant, says this is just the beginning of the national initiative. The team is taking the effort across the island, with Eight Mile Rock up next and it’s all free of charge.
