Junkanoo Lovers Cram Bay Street for “Da People’s Rush”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Inclement weather had little to no effect on the annual “People’s Rush” Independence Junkanoo Parade as scores of visitors and Bahamians turned out for the action.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Inclement weather may have kept some residents away from Clifford Park, but one event that could not be missed was the annual “People’s Rush” Independence Junkanoo Parade. Scores of visitors and Bahamians alike turned out around 1 a.m. for the action.

The atmosphere was electric as people filled the streets, ready to celebrate with all the spirit that makes the Bahamas so special.

And, of course, the various groups depicted themes focused on all things Bahamian.

Genesis Warhawks
First out of the gate, the Genesis Warhawks draped in their Independence colors, welcomed in Independence the only way they knew how.

Colors Junkanoo Group
Then came the self-proclaimed kings of the B category… Colors, playing sweet music in a way only they can.

Saxon Superstars
Next up was the fan favorite, the Saxon Superstars, who took Bay Street by storm. The dancers ushered us into Independence with their “Work on the Water” routine.

Valley Boys
Then Junkanoo lovers were taken into the Battle of the Valley… The world-famous Valley Boys, led by Brian Adderley, took us for a swing on the baseball field.

Way Forward Valley Boys
Immediately after, it was time for the Way Forward Valley Boys, led by Trevor Davis, showcasing their personal twist on Bahamian favorites.

Mighty Eagles, Immortals, and Music Makers
Following them, the Mighty Eagles, Immortals, and Music Makers also made their mark on the parade route.

Roots and One Family
Closing out the morning was Roots, who gave tribute to the late Elon Moxey and One Family, who played and danced us into the sunrise.

The Independence Parade was also a show for the books for visitors and locals alike. This family visiting from Atlanta tells me the experience was unforgettable.
