NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As inflation continues to impact countries globally, residents here in The Bahamas are also feeling the pinch, leaving many wondering when the promised increase in minimum wage will begin.

A recommendation formally submitted to the government by the national tripartite council to increase the national minimum wage, is expected to be discussed at cabinet very soon.

That’s according to director of Labour Robert Farquharson.

He says consultation continues with several stakeholders.

Last week, Minister of Economic Affairs Michael Halkitis said government will implement an increase in minimum wage before the end of the year.

Currently, the private sector minimum wage is $210 per week, while public sector minimum wage is $225 per week and is expected to increase to $250.

Farquharson says an increase will impact scores of residents.
