Hundreds Of Flights Delayed, Tech Issue Grounds United Airlines Flights

UNITED STATES – United Airlines briefly grounded flights across the U.S. on Wednesday due to a technical issue that has since been resolved.

In a statement, the airline said: “We’ve resolved technology issues that had been affecting flights. While we’re still experiencing delays, our team is working to restore our normal operations.”

The outage affected major United hub airports including Newark, Denver, Houston, and Chicago, prompting ground stops, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Flight tracking website FlightAware reported that by Wednesday evening, 34% of United’s flights had been delayed. The root of the issue was tied to United’s Unimatic system, which manages critical flight data including weight, balance, and tracking.

United says it will cover expenses such as hotel stays for passengers affected by delays caused by the glitch.

This comes just weeks after Alaska Airlines experienced a similar system outage that grounded flights for hoursm the second such incident for that airline in a little over a year.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy clarified the issue was specific to United Airlines and not related to national air traffic control systems.
