Family Homeless After Fire Destroys Their Home And Church

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Seven people, including Emanuel Thiboss’ family, lost their home and church to an East Street South fire. No injuries were reported, but they’ve been sleeping in their car while seeking temporary shelter.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Seven people are now homeless after a fire destroyed their four-bedroom East Street South apartment on Wednesday, though thankfully no one was injured.

Emanuel Thiboss, a father of four and pastor of the church on the building’s ground floor, was downstairs when the blaze broke out. The fire quickly engulfed the upper floor, where his pregnant wife and children were resting.

Emanuel Thiboss – Fire Victim:
“When I got up and went outside, I saw the smoke and the fire truck arrive. I just waited, watching the scene while they put out the fire.”

The family lost nearly all their belongings, including important documents, and their home also served as their place of worship.

Thiboss:
“My church, where we have Sunday service and Bible study, is gone. I can’t even hold meetings now because the fire took the place.”

Since the blaze, the family has been forced to sleep in their car near Monte Cube Beach.

Thiboss:
“I don’t have a place to sleep. Me and my family have been staying in the car by the beach.”

Some relief comes as the building owners have stepped forward to offer support. While the fire’s cause is still under investigation, the family is now seeking temporary shelter through social services.

Thiboss:
“Right now, I don’t feel okay. I just don’t feel right.”
