NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Looking for a creative escape in Nassau? The Current at Baha Mar isn’t just a gallery, it’s a vibrant hub for Bahamian art and culture.

From bold canvases to hands-on workshops, The Current celebrates local creativity in every form. Guests can try everything from sip-and-paint sessions to acrylic pours, whether they’re picking up a brush for the first time or hunting for their next masterpiece.

John Cox, Executive Director of Arts and Culture at Baha Mar, says the space is designed to meet visitors where they are.

“Those things are not big for us to execute, but they are fun. That’s the gateway for people to get into the art area, before we dive deeper into more complex work,” Cox explains.

Open seven days a week, The Current also features a boutique offering 100% Bahamian products, from bags and tumblers to locally produced wine, all infused with artistic flair.

The gallery showcases a wide range of Bahamian artists, including team members like Jordana Kelley and remote contributors like Toronto-based mixed media artist Veronica, giving visitors a rich variety of styles to explore and purchase.

On peak days, hundreds of art lovers pass through the gallery, turning openings into lively celebrations of Bahamian talent.

“At an opening, you can have three, four hundred people in just a three-hour period,” Cox says.

For Cox, this work goes beyond curating exhibitions, it’s about honoring the skill, sophistication, and culture of Bahamians while sharing it with the world.

“These are all done by Bahamians. We’re complex, sophisticated human beings in this Caribbean space, and visitors should be more informed and have us front of mind,” he adds.
