Can Pumping Storm Water Into Our Ocean Impact It Long Term?

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Flooding in the St. Albans Drive and West Grove communities as a result of Tropical Storm Imelda has pushed government to carry out a quick fix – pumping water from those communities and dumping the majority of it on Saunders Beach but, what, if any,  impact does this have on the environment?

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Flooding in the St. Albans Drive and West Grove communities as a result of Tropical Storm Imelda has pushed government to carry out a quick fix – pumping water from those communities and dumping the majority of it on Saunders Beach but, what, if any,  impact does this have on the environment?

Caribbean Program Director for Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, Rasheema Ingraham, says while it’s ideal for water to be treated first, there shouldn’t be a long term effects… 

And If you were to drive past the beach, it’s a shocking sight, once clear turquoise waters now look brown and brackish.

Drone footage show’s an extensive area  near the shore where the brackish water is settling.

And while an immediate solution was necessary, could this quick fix hurt one of our island’s premiere attractions?
