PM in May: “More Than a Balanced Budget – a Budget With a Surplus”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Back on May 28th, Prime Minister Davis in the house assembly announced a budget surplus to thunderous applause and a standing ovation. However in a press briefing Thursday, Economic Affairs Minister, Michael Halkitis would refer to the surplus as a mere “projection,” – a contradiction to the prime minister’s announcement in May.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Back on May 28th, Prime Minister Davis in the house assembly announced a budget surplus to thunderous applause and a standing ovation.

However on Thursday, Economic Affairs Minister, Michael Halkitis, told reporters at the Weekly Office of the Prime Minister briefing that the prime minister did not say this government achieved a budget surplus, but rather, it was a projection – a stark contrast to the prime minister’s actual verbiage in his presentation.

The official website for the government of The Bahamas currently still featuring an article titled “PM Davis Announces a First For An Independent Bahamas – a balanced budget”

The article, quoted the nation’s leader as saying, “more than a balanced budget- a budget surplus”, end quote.

This is not the first time the Davis administration claimed that the prime minister did not tout of a budget surplus.

In July, Davis labeled a local daily’s headline, referencing the surplus, as political mischief.

The ongoing denial raising questions now, not only by members of the opposition, but also by other political parties and the Bahamian public.
