NASSAU, BAHAMAS – What began as a one-time celebration has grown into a prestigious annual event. The Agrarian Awards returned for its second year, shining a spotlight on the nation’s farmers and their vital role in food security and sustainability.

Held at the Atlantis Paradise Island Ballroom, the evening was filled with elegance and excitement, from dazzling chandeliers and intricate centerpieces to sharp tuxedos and stunning gowns. Over 100 guests and nominees attended, including Prime Minister Philip Davis and Minister of Agriculture Jomo Campbell.

More than $50,000 in cash and prizes were awarded across several categories, recognizing excellence in farming, innovation, and lifelong contribution to agriculture.

Celebrating the Best in Bahamian Agriculture

Among the night’s big winners was Ceon Newbold, who took home the Prime Minister’s Youth Farmer of the Year Award.

“It was an unexpected win,” Newbold said, adding that several other talented young farmers were also deserving of the honor.

Brenda Gedeon was named Female Farmer of the Year, while Floyd Newton captured Male Farmer of the Year, dedicating his win to his late father.

“I told my father before he died that I would take his legacy to another level,” Newton said. “I’m a second-generation farmer.”

Government Commits More Support

Prime Minister Philip Davis commended all nominees and announced additional support for those who reached the finalist stage.

“We need to do more to incentivize and encourage those who made the final list,” he said. “All finalists will be given a grant.”

The Agrarian Awards has quickly become a cornerstone of recognition for Bahamian farmers, celebrating their resilience, innovation, and continued contribution to the nation’s agricultural development.
