NASSAU, BAHAMAS – With the Golden Isles by-election just days away, residents say infrastructure, visibility, and consistency from their next representative remain top priorities.

The seat became vacant following the passing of former MP Vaughn Miller. Four candidates are now vying for the job: PLP’s Darron Pickstock, FNM’s Brian Brown, COI’s Brian Rolle, and independent candidate Karen Butler.

For longtime resident Frankie, basic infrastructure is still lacking.

“I’ve been living here six, seven years and I’ve been asking both governments just for a street sign. I can’t even tell you where I live,” he said.

Another resident, Cedric Munroe, believes people aren’t asking for much—just presence and communication.

“Lil road work… one or two parks… and keep in touch with the people who vote for ya. People just want the representative to come around so they can share concerns.”

Some residents say they haven’t noticed any major difference between candidates just yet.

“All of them just alike. They get in there and after a while they do the same thing. I guess you gotta try somebody, everybody ain’t gonna be alike,” one senior citizen told us.

Others, like Ellis, want to see real investment in the area.

“Upkeep the place… the roads have to be done. No use you buy a car for thousands and then you rolling on the road and end up in the shop,” he said.

Despite differing views, many residents agree on one thing, unity matters more than politics.

“Things ga be just the way it always be unless we come together as people instead of being divided,” Frankie added.

The advanced poll opens Monday, with the full by-election taking place on November 24.
