Men Arraigned for Stealing from Grounded Barge in Abaco

MARSH HARBOUR, ABACO – Three men made their first court appearance today after a cargo barge headed to Puerto Rico was looted while stranded on a reef in the Abacos.

Prosecutors allege that Darron Lightbourne and Fairel McIntosh stole washers, dryers, engines and electronics, with a total value of $500,000 from the US-flagged Brooklyn Bridge, while Mosell Smith was allegedly found in possession of appliances taken from the barge.

Lightboune and McIntosh entered not guilty pleas to stealing charges and Smith denied a receiving charge when they were arraigned before Assistant Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans at the Marsh Harbour Magistrate’s Court.

Bail was set at $30,000 each for Lightbourne and McIntosh and Smith’s bail was set at $7,000.

The men return to court on January 21, 2016 for the start of their trial.
