NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Alexis Johnson, a former supervisor at the Grand Lucayan Resort is one of several employees impacted by late pay, reduced work weeks, and an indefinite pause from work at the government owned hotel.

While she eventually got her back pay days before Christmas, the new year has brought new hardships.

Johnson claims while visiting the National Insurance Board, she found out that her contributions were only paid up to June, even though regular NIB salary deductions continued.

The situation is taking a toll on her life, providing documents supporting her claim.

In May 2025, government announced the sale of the Grand Lucayan Resort to U.S. based developer Concord Wilshire, a move that was widely promoted as a turning point for Grand Bahama’s economy.

At the time, Johnson says she was hopeful, but that optimism has faded.

She claims the issues at the resort are part of a wider problem on the island.

In the middle of Johnson’s interview, she received notice via email that no salaries would be paid again Friday.

Like so many others, she’s needs answers.
