NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Progressive Liberal Party Chairman Fred Mitchell is addressing a heated altercation at PLP headquarters earlier this week, as tensions rise over the party’s nomination battle in Southern Shores.

The contest has pitted ZNS General Manager Clint Watson against Obie Roberts, the son of former PLP Chairman Bradley Roberts, exposing sharp divisions among party supporters.

Mitchell says while nomination fights can stir strong emotions, such scenes are not unusual during election season, and do not signal any fundamental problems within the party.

He also notes that there is a “high degree of interest” in the PLP nomination for Bimini and the Berry Islands.

Bimini and the Berry Islands was one of two new constituencies created ahead of the 2026 general election.

However, Mitchell says “the names aren’t all in yet.”

“It’s probably premature for me to try and prescribe that in any way right now, except to say that the process will be free and fair.”

As for when we could possibly see a full roll-out of candidates.
