PHILIPPINES – At least seven people are confirmed dead after a passenger boat carrying more than three hundred people capsized off the southern Philippine province of Basilan.

The Philippine Coast Guard says the vessel overturned shortly after midnight while traveling from Zamboanga to Jolo in Sulu province.

Officials say there were 352 passengers and 27 crew members on board.

As of Monday, more than people have been rescued, with at least seven bodies recovered and more than 140 others still missing.

The Coast Guard says an investigation is underway to determine what caused the accident.
