Still Waiting on Pay: Grand Lucayan Employee Speaks Out

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Another Grand Lucayan Resort employee is breaking her silence, shedding light on what she says has been months of financial uncertainty and broken promises.

The employee, who has worked at the resort for nearly four years asked to remain anonymous, and says she is among several staff members affected by late salary payments, and in some cases, no pay at all.

She describes the situation as discouraging, saying it’s taken a serious toll on her life and her ability to provide for her family.

Furthermore, just when things couldn’t get any worse, she says her car which has mechanical issues, developed a gas leak and caught fire at her home on Friday.

Adding to the frustration, she claims she was unable to apply for unemployment benefits through NIB because she never received a redundancy letter, despite requesting one.

While some say the economy is improving, she insists the reality on the ground in Grand Bahama tells a different story, and believes the prime minister may not fully understand what workers are facing.

On Sunday, during a ratification event, Prime Minister Philip Davis was asked about the Grand Lucayan matter and outstanding employee payments.

He said the issue is being addressed and that employees will be paid, but for this employee, those words offered little reassurance.

She also explains why many employees have chosen to remain anonymous – pointing to fear, intimidation, and pride among Grand Bahamians who simply want stability, not confrontation.

Additionally, she adds some workers have been called doubtful about the hotel.
