VIETNAM – Newly revealed internal documents show Vietnam’s military has been quietly preparing for a potential U.S. “war of aggression”, despite Hanoi and Washington upgrading ties to their highest diplomatic level just last year.

According to ABC News, the document, dated August 2024, describes the United States as a “belligerent” power and warns that Washington and its allies could use unconventional warfare or create a pretext to intervene in countries that “deviate from its orbit.”

The papers also show deep fear inside Vietnam’s leadership of a Western-backed “color revolution”, a popular uprising that could threaten communist party rule.

Analysts say the findings reveal Hanoi does not see the U.S. as a true strategic partner and has no plans to join an Anti-China Alliance.

The U.S. State department declined to address the document directly but said the partnership promotes prosperity and security for both countries.
