Exuma Beach Given “All Clear”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A beach at Georgetown, Exuma has been given the “all clear” after 35,000 gallons of fuel spilled in late July, according to the Director of the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection (DEPP).

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A beach at Georgetown, Exuma has been given the “all clear” after 35,000 gallons of fuel spilled in late July, according to the Director of the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection (DEPP).

Dr. Rhiann Neely-Murphy says officers from the Department of Environmental Health and DEPP visited the site on Exuma, to inspect the waters, sand and rocks in the area for any signs of contamination.

The agencies say, “no free product was observed in the water, sand or rocky areas adjacent, neither was there product seen on the surface.” Marine animals were also observed at the site three weeks after the massive fuel spill.

The beach was set to reopen on August 10th.
