“Straightforward Solution” East Sampson Cay Situation

EXUMA, BAHAMAS – Turtlegrass CEO, Bob Coughlin, says there is a straightforward solution to the situation in East Sampson Cay, one that could end the current legal disputes, unlock progress for central Exuma, and benefit Yntegra itself.

That solution, according to Turtlegrass CEO, Bob Coughlin, is to move the industrial supply dock, and fuel and waste facilities away from the North Bay and down to the south of Sampson Cay, where deep water already exists and massive dredging would not be required.

Coughlin claims turtlegrass has been urging developer yntegra to consider that alternative for the past three years, but, says the company has refused to engage.

According to Coughlin, placing the facilities in the North Bay would require dredging through shallow waters containing seagrass, coral reefs, and conch hatcheries, raising environmental concerns voiced by residents at last week’s town hall in Georgetown, Exuma.

He also argues the industrial site would sit near a shared beach and between major tourism properties, potentially harming central Exuma’s high-end tourism economy.

Coughlin maintains Turtlegrass is not opposed to development, noting it signed its heads of agreement in 2023 and is currently Central Exuma’s largest active employer.

However, he says relocating the dock south would avoid environmental damage, reduce legal disputes, and allow progress to move forward.

Turtlegrass says it remains willing to engage if Yntegra reconsiders the plan.
