Family Mourns As 21-Year-Old Man Murdered

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A family mourns and a community is left in shock after the brutal murder of a well-known young man who many say had a promising future. Twenty-four-hours after police made the gruesome discovery of Omar Davis Jr.’s body, it appears they are making progress in the case.

But it’s little consolation for those left to mourn and question the motive behind the latest murder.

Four men ages 20- to 56-years-old are in custody and are assisting police with their investigations, as the Davis family tries to cope with the shocking death.

It was an emotional scene Tuesday evening as family members and onlookers watched police officials removed the lifeless body of a man from the trunk of a black Honda Fit.

Family members identifying the victim as 21-year-old Omar Davis Jr., a recent graduate of Central State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and finance.

Initial reports revealed that Davis’ body was found partially decomposed.

Chief Superintendent, Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Michael Johnson gave details to members of the media while on the scene Tuesday night.

Our News spoke with grieving family members. His aunt, Shaniese Rahming also known as Aunt Mary, recalls her last conversation with Omar, where he told her he was leaving for Atlanta for a year-long internship at Deloitte.

Omar’s father, Omar Davis Sr. was murdered at his home on Abraham Street in the Kemp Road community back in June 2013. Omar was just 11-years-old when he watched his father die on the doorstep.

Rahming says the last time she heard from her nephew was 11 a.m. on Monday morning. Family members became suspicious after he wasn’t answering their phone calls.

They say Omar had a bright future ahead and he didn’t deserve to die.
