Husband of Missing Woman in Abaco Injured, Lawyer Maintains Innocence

GRAND BAHAMA , BAHAMS – There are new developments in the disappearance of an American woman in waters off Abaco.

The husband of Lynette Hooker, who remains missing at sea, recently received medical attention after what his attorney describes as a harrowing incident while in police custody.

As investigators continue questioning him in Grand Bahama, we spoke with his lawyer on Friday morning in Freeport, who maintained his innocence.

The attorney for Brian Hooker, Terrel Butler, said her client is not only grieving over the disappearance of his wife of 25 years, Lynette Hooker, but was also injured following an incident while in police custody.

Butler detailed in a statement the incident the night of his arrest.

She claimed that during stormy weather, Hooker was taken by boat, in handcuffs, to assist police with a search.

While attempting to move across the vessel, he reportedly slipped on the wet surface and fell overboard.

According to Butler, he swallowed a significant amount of seawater before being rescued by officers.

She said that he suffered a knee injury, showed visible abrasions, and requested medical attention.

We caught up with Butler outside the Central Police Station in Freeport on Friday morning, where an international media outlet was present.

Butler said that her client was preparing to be interviewed, and she expects to be present during that interview, which could last about an hour.

Additionally, she claimed police confirmed he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Butler told us her client could be released as early as Friday night, when the 48-hour detention period expires.

However, police do have the option to seek an extension or formally charge him.

Despite growing speculation surrounding the case, Butler insisted that there is no evidence linking her client to any wrongdoing.
