NASSAU , BAHAMAS – The New Providence Basketball Association concluded its season with a pair of thrillers to decide the division champions.

The Caribbean Moonshine Rockets have won the Division I title after edging the Commonwealth Bank Giants 73–71 in a Game Five decider.

Kadeem Coleby delivered a dominant performance with 23 points and 15 rebounds, both game highs, to lead the Rockets to the championship.

Livingstone Munnings added a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Able Joseph contributed 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and six steals in an all-around performance.

For the Giants, Van Hutchinson led the way with 19 points, De’onta Tinker scored 15, and Eugene Bain finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

It was a hard-fought series from start to finish, with three of the five games decided by single digits.

In Division II, the Yes Giants held off the AFS Insurance Heatwaves 89–88 to close out the series 3–1.

Mathew Saunders scored the last eight points for the Giants, and the Heatwaves’ looks on the final possession fell short.

Saunders and Toreque Cartwright led the way for the Giants with 16 points each, while Brya Rolle added 14 and Tito Bethell Jr. contributed 13 in the title win.

For the Heatwaves, Jamerolston Vil put on a show with 33 points and nine rebounds, while Tahj Burrows scored 16 and Therese Porter added 14 in the loss.

NBA

Despite injuries and an ever-changing rotation, the Philadelphia 76ers are primed to host a play-in matchup against the Orlando Magic.

The winner clinches the seventh seed, and the loser faces the Charlotte Hornets for the final spot in the playoffs.

The 76ers won the season series 2–1 over the Magic, and Orlando’s lone win was in the NBA Cup when Edgecombe did not play.

He scored 26 points with four rebounds and seven assists in the October win, and followed that with six points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in the January win.

Mingoes Softball

Always looking to strengthen its athletic programs, the University of The Bahamas hired its first full-time women’s softball head coach.

Yvana McDonald, a familiar face in both the softball and university communities, has been selected to lead the program.

The new head coach says she plans to hit the ground running by building a competitive roster.

Recruitment efforts will target high school players, currently enrolled UB students on both campuses, as well as talent from the Family Islands.

Tryouts for current UB students are set for Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
