What Are the PLP’s Plans if They Secure a Re-Election Victory?

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Thirteen major commitments, and a vision for the future as the Davis administration unveiled its blueprint for change ahead of the May 12th general election, saying a vote for the party is a vote to continue the progress already underway.

At the top of the agenda is to lower the cost of living, promising no Value Added Tax on all unprepared food items in food stores, along with stronger action to ensure fairer prices at the gas pump.

More opportunities for Bahamians also front and center, with a pledge to train 25,000 Bahamians by 2031 through the Upskill Bahamas programme.

The plan also targets lower electricity bills, with a goal of achieving 30% renewable energy by 2030.

Then, workers could also see new benefits, including better pay, paternity leave for fathers, mental wellness days, and health insurance coverage for all civil servants.

When it comes to crime and public safety, the administration says it wants to build on what it calls a 31% drop in murders, with tougher gun laws and a reduction in the court backlog also being high on the priority list.

Affordable housing remains a key promise, including new housing subdivisions across the family islands, and an expansion of the rent-to-own programme for essential workers.

The blueprint also outlines greater support for teachers and students, along with improvements to healthcare, including promises for new hospitals in New Providence and Grand Bahama, plus expanded National Health Insurance drug coverage.

Food security is another major focus, with a target of cutting food imports by 25% by 2030, including achieving 80% egg self-sufficiency through the Golden Yolk Programme.

For the family islands, more development is on the horizon, with the completion of additional airports, and a fully digital MyGateway system designed to make government services accessible online.

Furthermore, the plan also puts a spotlight on the nation’s second city, Grand Bahama, as the administration promises to accelerate investment and development, including the Freeport health campus, the Grand Bahama International Airport, and the Grand Lucayan Resort.

Then finally, there is a national development plan aimed at building a stronger, more modern Bahamas for generations to come.

However, with election day quickly approaching, the big question remains, will these promises be enough to convince Bahamians to choose progress on May 12th?
