Hundreds Gather to Remember Teens Killed in Shirley Street Car Crash

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It was a night of compassion and remembrance, as more than a hundred loved ones and supporters filled the William Thompson Auditorium.

The room was filled with mourners wearing custom graphic shirts showing images, honoring Diamond Stubbs, Stania Webb, Bertrica Brown, Keno Gordon, and Evalena Johnson.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It was a night of compassion and remembrance, as more than a hundred loved ones and supporters filled the William Thompson Auditorium.

The room was filled with mourners wearing custom graphic shirts showing images, honoring Diamond Stubbs, Stania Webb, Bertrica Brown, Keno Gordon, and Evalena Johnson.

Among them was Prime Minister Phillip Davis, who gave an emotional tribute.

“We stand with the people of Cat Island, and we stand with all those who have been affected by this heartbreaking loss….to every mother and father and family member please know that the prayers of this nation are with you.”

As the night went on, tribute after tribute spoke of the teens’ inner desires and aspirations for the future.

The families of Stania and Bertrica were overcome with grief, but they were not able to hear from them.

Stania Webb’s godmother and cousin, Olive Mackey, says Webb was excited about the next chapter of her educational journey.

“It was great potential, we looked forward to it, already planning her graduation, but can I tell you God had an another plan and so family. GG, Stanley, and the entire family, and the family of all others, we will mourn but not without hope, [we ‘re] gonna continue to trust God because whatever God does he do it well. And we will understand it…”

Also paying tribute was Keno Gordon’s aunt, who spoke of his time in Nassau.

“Well Keno, from he came from Cat Island, he was living with me. So, at this point, it’s left a hole I can’t even explain. You know, and I only could leave it to the master…”

The evening’s tributes also turned to Diamond Stubbs, with her aunt remembering the young woman’s impact on family and community.

“I watch her grow up into the flower and bloom, into the young lady that she became, and this memorial means so much to us, to the whole entire family, because she not only was she a riveting treasure to the world, but she meant to do so much for the community. She was always a part of so many different things, so many people’s lives.”
