B.D.O.C.S. Escapee Gets 1-year Sentence

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Winston Walker, who also uses the name Paul Williams, pleaded guilty to his August 31st escape from custody at The Bahamas Department of Corrections, when he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney, Friday.

Walker, a 30-year-old Jamaican citizen, was being held at the remand center on charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.

Prosecutors say officers removed him from his cell around 2pm after he claimed that other inmates had threatened to kill him.

Soon after, Walker making a run for it while prosecutors say the officers were busy dealing with several fights among inmates.

The court heard how he jumped the wall behind the chapel and a fence that led to Yamacraw Road.

Walker’s escape was short lived, though, as police say they arrested him around 1am on Sea Breeze Lane after responding to reports of a prowler.

Magistrate McKinney told Walker that he would inform officials of the security concerns that prompted his escape.

Walker is awaiting trial for the offenses that previously landed him in prison.
