UNITED STATES – CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett is urging regional and international partners to strengthen coordination of assistance to Haiti.

Addressing the OAS Permanent Council on September 3rd, Dr. Barnett said better coordination is essential to address the urgent needs of the Haitian people while avoiding duplication of efforts.

She highlighted the OAS initiative, “towards a Haitian-led roadmap for stability and peace with regional and international support,” as well as a high-level international delegation that visited Haiti in August, with CARICOM participating at the invitation of the OAS Secretary-General.

Dr. Barnett said the initiatives have helped strengthen coordination and create greater synergy among international partners by encouraging the exchange of experiences and lessons learned on supporting Haiti’s path toward stability and peace.
