NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS – Local artists have consistently articulated their difficulties regarding the sustainability of a career in the music industry.

This evening, we will examine these concerns more closely, shifting our focus to creatives in the family islands.

In this report, I spoke with recording artist Nevandria Lyriic to gain further insights and discovered that the challenges differ from those faced in New Providence.

Nevandria Lyriic is a local neo-soul artist.

We have showcased her performance at the Nassau Cruise Port, where she was the inaugural artist for the port’s Soulful Sundays event. Recently, we encountered her at Commonwealth Brewery Limited’s event, bold conversations, held at the Island House.

There have been several shows in the capital where Nevandria has been engaged as a featured performer; however, she is based in Abaco.

She informed me that she has been traveling back and forth from Abaco to New Providence in her pursuit of a music career for years.

She expresses that the family island currently lacks the necessary infrastructure for artists to maintain a consistent presence.

“We barely have studios here. Persons that do that you know we investing out of our own pockets. In terms of live music it’s now just coming back on board, I know with Abaco use to have a music scene a night life before Dorian that’s now starting to rebuilding itself so it’s pretty hard “

Lyriic also indicated that booking shows in Nassau poses certain challenges, observing that on occasion, promoters are not eager to assume the extra cost associated with her travel.

“They may have the budget to pay my rate but then now you have to factor in airline tickets some place to stay, vehicle, studio rehearsal spaces that kind of thing. “

Nevertheless, she expressed her commitment to maintaining consistency.

Lyric mentions that she has developed relationships with others in the entertainment sector, including Jiggy Productions and producer Sketch Carey, both located in New Providence.

By sharing personal insights, she indicated that these connections enable her to produce music and visuals on a budget-friendly basis, which in some cases involves setting up payment plans.

Lyric acknowledges that these are the sacrifices she must endure to turn her dreams into reality.

“Everybody who’s in the industry knows this. I’m the type of person if I’m working with you if I have to eat bread and noodles to make sure that you’re paid and you feel that I appreciate your value I’m going to do that. I’m grateful for the relationships that’s I’ve had that I do have and the opportunity to work in the way that I do.”
