NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prosecutors are making a third attempt to retry a former police officer and two men linked to a $64,000 cocaine seizure at Lynden Pindling International Airport in 2013.

Toni Sweeting, her brother Delano, and Jamaican national Conrad Campbell had their convictions overturned in 2017 after the original case closed without a key witness being examined.

Two subsequent trials were left unfinished when the presiding magistrates were reassigned.

Defence attorney Murrio Ducille argues too much time has passed to pursue another trial.

Senior magistrate Raquel Whymms will hear arguments next month. All three remain on bail.

The case dates back to April 2013, when Toni, then a police officer, was allegedly caught with two kilograms of cocaine strapped beneath her uniform.

Delano was arrested in the departure lounge and Campbell a week later.

Prosecutors allege paint chips in Delano’s carry-on bag were linked to those found on the cocaine package and at Campbell’s home.

Toni originally received four-and-a-half years in prison, Delano four years, and Campbell three-and-a-half years.
