NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A local church is one step closer to receiving a $300,000 inheritance, more than a decade after it was promised the money.

Mary Carolyn Papai, founder of Ports International, died in 2014, leaving the money to New Providence Community Church.

But the estate’s executors argued there were insufficient funds in the accounts named in her will, and that company funds were not hers to give.

Now, Justice Hope Strachan has ruled the inheritance remains valid and could be paid from other estate assets.

The judge has given the executors 45 days to provide a full breakdown of Papai’s finances, including what has been paid out and what remains.

The court also upheld another $200,000 in charitable gifts.

But the church’s victory does not guarantee an immediate payout.

Whether it receives the full $300,000 will depend on what that financial report reveals.
