CANADA – Quebec solidaire political party opposed to swearing an oath to Britain’s King Charles says it expects to introduce legislation that would make it optional.

It is unclear whether the party which represents just 11 ridings in the 125-seat assembly would have widespread support.

It comes after the death of Queen Elizabeth in September revived a debate among Canadians on whether the country should continue with the decades-old system of British monarchy.
