Congo Floods’ Death Toll Tops 140
DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO – The Democratic Republic of Congo beginning three days of national mourning Wednesday, after 141 people died in the latest deadly floods in the capital Kinshasa.

The provincial Public Health Ministry updated the newest death toll to 140 deaths from the floods, which were triggered by heavy downpours, on Monday.
Authorities originally reported at least 50 people were killed.
Entire neighborhoods were flooded with muddy water and houses and roads ripped apart by sinkholes.
Images showed a major road crowded with people and cars that suddenly dropped off at a steep dirt cliff, with a hole big enough to swallow houses where the pavement used to be. Residents blamed the government for the poor infrastructure that was impacted by the floods and landslides
