Murder Accused Request Denied
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A judge has rejected an attempt by an accused murderer to have his ankle bracelet removed.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A judge has rejected an attempt by an accused murderer to have his ankle bracelet removed. Berlin Belfort, who is accused of the February 17, 2020 shooting death of Kevin Storr at Toote Shop Corner, has been on bail since January 2021.
In an application to have his ankle monitor removed, Belfort said he worked as a delivery man, which required him to go into businesses and private homes.
Belfort said he had managed to keep the fact that he was being tracked a secret from his boss and coworkers.
However, according to Belfort, in recent times his monitor had been activated while in the presence of his coworkers.
He said he was increasingly concerned that he would lose his job if his boss found out.
In response, the prosecution said Belfort had provided no proof that he worked as a handyman.
Additionally, he had started off on the wrong foot by failing to tell his boss he was on bail.
In her ruling, Justice Camille Darville-Gomez said that there were no compelling reasons to remove Belfort’s ankle monitor so close to his trial, which is set to begin on January 16, 2023.
