“Coach Yo” and Ole Miss Carve Up Auburn

OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI – The conference portion of a college basketball team’s schedule is usually when teams hit a rough patch.

Yolett “Coach Yo” McPhee McCuin and the University of Mississippi Lady Rebels did not get that memo as they smoked the Auburn University Tigers 79-47 in their conference opener. The win puts Coach McCuin, the only Bahamian who has ever been the head coach of an NCAA power-5 team, and her Rebels’ record at 12-2 on the season.

Senior guard Angel Baker led the Rebels with 18 points while grabbing 6 boards. Snudda Collins added 15 points and 5 rebounds and Destiny Salary grabbed 10 rebounds off the bench. Aicha Coulibaly led Auburn with 13 points.

Ole Miss coasted to the win despite shooting only 4-13 from the 3-point-line, the Rebels pounded the boards, out-rebounding Auburn 53-37. They also hounded the Tigers on defense, holding them to 25 percent shooting for the entire night.

This gave Ole Miss plenty of opportunities to get out on the break and score easy points.

Speaking exclusively with Our Sports, Coach Yo expressed her excitement for the win saying, “I’m really happy we protected our home court!”. Every player played and everyone scored”.
She also added that she’s excited for the team’s next game against in-state rival Mississippi State.

That game is on the SEC Network on New Year’s day at 7 pm Bahamas time for those of you with the sports package. So be sure to check that out after you wake up from your post-Junkanoo nap.
