Grandparent’s Association Calls for Support

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It’s a fairly new non-profit organization in Grand Bahama that supports grand parents: The Bahamas Grandparents Foundation. The support group that started in February 2022 is located at the Grand Bahama Resilience Center and is currently assisting many families on the island.

The Grand Parents Support Foundation provides assistance and support to grand parents raising their grand children, through clothing, food and education. Founder of the organization Claire Fox says the foundation is currently feeding over 30 families.

She says that they are concerned about the spiritual, mental and physical health of grand parents.

Member Zendal Carey says he is heavily involved in the lives of his grand kids and gave this bit of advice.

Member Margaritta Munroe says she was raised by her grandmother.

The president confirming that while she does not have the exact statistics there are many children being raised by their grand parents in the country for various reasons, like death or financial issues.
