50th Independence Logo and Theme Launched

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The country kicking off activities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of independence Thursday evening in Parliament Square, with the unveiling the official logo and theme: The Bahamas, one nation, one legacy, our future.

Bahamians in the crowd expressing their Bahamian pride and culture by dancing and waving their Bahamian flags.

The logo that is gold, adorned with the country’s national bird – the flamingo – was celebrated by the crowd.

The logo was designed by three Bahamians, following 300 submissions from across the country and their ideas were all put together to create the final image.

Chair of the National Independence Secretariat Leslia Brice telling Bahamians to expect a grand celebration for the country’s 50th anniversary from now until July 2024.

Prime Minister Phillip Davis used the opportunity to reflect on the country’s history

Many who have helped to shape and mold the country over the past 50 years were also in attendance, including former Prime Ministers Hubert Ingraham and Perry Christie, who say they are proud of the country’s accomplishments.

Ruby Ann Cooper Darling, the first Bahamian woman to register to vote says overall she was impressed.

The event closed with a Junkanoo rush out and fireworks.
