NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Labour And Immigration Minister Keith Bell responding to employment concerns within the petroleum industry.

A few weeks ago some members of the Bahamas Petroleum Dealers Association warned of potential layoffs.

They warned that if no changes could be made to profit margins in their industry, they’d be forced to fire workers once the new minimum wage increase came into effect this year.

While there have been no mass layoffs, there have been reports of hours being cut in order for employers to “stay afloat”.
